Candles

Bought cute candle holders for outside
Filled with sand from Newport Beach
Selected two random candles from my closet
Burned during our financial meeting for a little love to cheer us

Realized that not all candles are created equal

Liver

A few days ago we were talking at dinner about Charity's jaundice. (She never had to have treatment, but was tested with a nasty poke on the foot five times.) We were grateful that her liver was working properly.

Scott asked "What's a liver?"

As Matt and I paused to configure a 4-year-old-level response, he continued.
"Is it what makes you live?"

Classic.

Making the Relief Society is jealous

I heard the funniest radio ad yesterday. Near the end, the ad says something like "Make all the women in your Relief Society jealous!" I laughed so hard.

So here is the question, what do you think the ad was for?

And here is the other question, what do you wish the Relief Society sisters in your ward were jealous of? I realize that this is not a very proper and kindly question, definitely unusual from my pure mouth;-). It is merely an exercise in good wit and a bit of honesty.

So speak up.

Charity's fancy pics

My very talented friend Lindsay took some pictures of Charity last week. She did a great job despite the excessive amounts of pee and poop she chose to time just perfectly (when her diaper was removed).

And if you want to read a beautiful essay on children and love and hope, go here.

Soooo tiiired. . .

Last night I was up for about 4 hours with just a few 15 or 20 minute breaks between feedings, diaperings, burpings, etc. Then this morning, Charity would not go to sleep no matter what I tried. She would rest for a few daring minutes, tempting me into doing something, like shower, or lay down, and she would be crying again in minutes.

By lunch time, I could barely keep my eyes open and my voice in normal volume range. Finally at 1:30 she nodded off, and so did I. I slept for 2 1/2 hours without batting an eye. Yesterday, the same thing, a blissful 2 1/2 hour rest while my sweet husband held down the fort.

Please, someone remind me that babies do start sleeping at least somewhat normally before too long. I could use a reminder.

A spot of sun at night

Here are our two cute boys, asleep finally, no covers, bums in the air. Also notice the piles of toys Andrew accumulates to sleep with after being put to bed.

I love my boys.

Mail order nurseries

My front flower bed, July 2007

I've ordered plants from a few nurseries. I have been less than pleased and less than successful in growing some of these specimens. So when I found this list in a magazine, I saved it. Maybe you'd like to see it too.

The top five nurseries:
Bluestone Perennials
Forestfarm
Lazy S'S Farm Nursery
High Country Gardens
Garden Crossings

The Bottom Five:
Michigan Bulb Co
Wayside Gardens
Gardener's Choice
Direct Gardening
Four Seasons Nursery

Do you have any experience with these? I've used Michigan Bulb (not good) and Wayside Gardens (okay).

Also check out www.GardenWatchdog.com for a VERY comprehensive list of nurseries.

Keeping quiet

Yesterday, I fell into bed at the late hour of 10:00, AM. I was tired out from a lousy night sleep and a busy family. I let Scott play on the computer, had Andrew watch him, and snuck off. When I awoke, I snuck into the bathroom for a shower before my kids noticed and waylayed me for another hour or two. It was very quiet out "there" and I thought to myself what good boys I have. I think it flitted through my brain that quiet kids need to be checked on, you know, just in case they are REALLY entertaining themselves. But I pushed the thought aside and assumed the best.

When I got out, I opened my door to see Andrew coming to visit me. He smiled up at me and I got my first glimpse at the blueish-green ring around his mouth. Uh oh, and I followed him into the kitchen.

This is what I found:

Andrew had gotten the cereal out, dumped every last bit of it onto the table and rid it of every single one of its marshmallows. We don't always have marshmallowed cereal for our kids and apparently it was just too much temptation for Andrew to resist. What a rascal!

Guess what Andrew will be eating in church for the next month? Marshmallow-less cereal.

See the tummy

You can get a little idea of what the expansion is looking like at Sun in My Soul and just how clean it is.
