Final Salute

I am listening to NPR right now. They are discussing a book called Final Salute by Jim Sheeler. It chronicles his experience in notifying families about the death of a loved one in the service of their country. It is heart-breaking to hear. I think I want to read it, but I'm not sure yet.

If you can, read an excerpt here. It's not a pleasant read, but sometimes the most important things we do, individually and as a collective whole, are the hardest.

Thank you.

Yeah, pretty much my nightmare. Except I never got past the phone call.
